A lot of people want to hit the middle ground. They neither want to go too far to the left nor steer too close to the right. So, when it comes to Husqvarna chainsaws, the 455 is the ideal middle ground. It’s not the most expensive chainsaw of the Husqvarna family. But it dishes out enough power to handle a ton of different slicing-and-dicing jobs.

For starters, it’s a gas-powered chainsaw. So, unlike electric chainsaws, you get a lot more oomph. It’s a 55CC chainsaw. So, you don’t have to worry when a thick and seemingly unbeatable hardwood comes your way.

Moreover, the 455 rancher has an automatic oiler. The well-designed oilier promises long, continuous cutting without any trouble. It ensures a steady oil supply on the bar and chain – so you remain safe from kickbacks and the chain remains effective.

Bonus points to this chainsaw because the cleanup is a walk in the park. It has a quick-release filter that makes the cleaning quite simple. And if you want to change the filter, you can do it without breaking a sweat.

What I like most about the Husqvarna 455 chainsaw is power conservation. It has the X-torque that cuts fuel usage by nearly 1/5th of the standard consumption. And the toxic fume that escapes into the air through chainsaw usage is also slashed down to more than half.
In case you require any repair of this chainsaw, the tools necessary are readily available in the hardware shops. However, it does have a heavy-duty build. So, it should serve you for a long time before you have to think of repairs and stuff.

Also, the operations of this machine are effortless. It has a chain tensioning system which is trouble-free for quick and straightforward adjustments. You can check out the Husqvarna 455 rancher review if you’re interested in getting more details about this chainsaw.

Tips: The king of mid-tier Husqvarna chainsaws. This machine has what it takes to take down both soft and hardwood. But the good news is – the price point is a wee bit more tolerable than the 460 Rancher. Plus, all the adjustments are hassle-free. It has a super powerful motor and an automatic oiler. The X-torque ensures power conservation, making the chainsaw very economical.

Tips: This machine has an excellent tensioning system; thus, all the adjustments are trouble-free. It has a super powerful motor and an automatic oiler. The x-torque ensures power conservation thus very economical.

If you want to take your chainsaw game up a notch, the Husqvarna 460 Rancher should do the trick. As you can tell from the name, it’s a bigger and better version of the Husqvarna 455. It has more power, more utility, and more options for users to get a lot done.

Compared to the 455 Rancher, you get 60.3CC in the 460. So, that’s a considerable improvement when it comes to cutting tough-to-handle hardwood. If you need a chainsaw that’ll chew through oaks and maples, this chainsaw has got what it takes.

Plus, this chainsaw can accommodate a chain of 24 inches. So, you won’t have trouble dealing with heavy-duty cutting jobs. More torque – more power – bigger chain size – makes this chainsaw a complete powerhouse.

Similar to all the chainsaws in the Husqvarna line, the 460 Rancher also has the X-torq technology. However, the fuel consumption rate is lower in this model compared to the 455. That’s a big leap if you think about it. Because this chainsaw has a more powerful motor but the fuel consumption is lower than the less powerful 455 Rancher.

Plus, you won’t have any issues with cleaning. The quick-release air filter will take care of more than 50% of the cleaning task all by itself without you interfering.

And let’s not forget the automatic oiler. This feature ensures steady oil flow in the chain and bar, making it excellent for continuous tasks. But I won’t call this a beginner-friendly chainsaw. It packs a lot of punch. And if you’re completely new to sawing, you would be better off using the 455 Rancher. While the Smart Start does help newcomers, it’s not enough. A first-time user will struggle trying to manage such a powerful chainsaw.

Still, if power and flexibility is what you want – there’s no beating the Husqvarna 460 Rancher. I have a detailed review of the 460 Rancher if you feel like knowing more about this powerhouse.

Tips: This elegant chainsaw has Smart Start + easy to adjust + easy to clean. It features an automatic oiler that’s why it’s very useful in time-consuming jobs. The X-torque design minimizes the power consumption = economical.

Tips: Thus, elegant chainsaw use smart start technology has straightforward operations. It features an automatic oiler hence very useful in long hour’s jobs. The x-torque design minimizes the power consumption therefore economical.

The two chainsaws I’ve mentioned earlier are on the higher end of the Husqvarna chainsaw line. Still, I’ve kept them on the top because they’re a better bargain despite the price. Anyways, not everyone needs a boatload of power in their chainsaws. Many homeowners just want something casual. The Husqvarna 240 chainsaw is perfect for weekend warriors for small wood cutting jobs.

This chainsaw can be considered as one of the best chainsaws under $200. It is a decent machine due to its 16-inch bar and fantastic design. Also, it has X-Torq technology as well. So, less fuel consumption and more work done.

Plus, this budget chainsaw is friendly for the environment thanks to the reduced exhaust emission levels. It also has a centrifugal air cleaning system, which is useful in removing dust and debris. Therefore, the tool does not require extensive cleaning.

And the air filter of this tool is also convenient. It has a quick release and you can reassemble it quickly without any tools. The engine is free from oil flooding – so, it’ll last for years to come if maintained properly.

Husqvarna 240 chainsaw has a stop control. The stop control ensures that the chainsaw starts effortlessly and has trouble-free runtime. It’s not as heavy as the other two chainsaws mentioned above. So, you won’t get exhausted by carrying it around for hours on end.

Furthermore, it has a decent motor. The cutting speed is good enough for light to medium cutting jobs. With a bar length of 13-16 inches, you get the flexibility to choose from different options. For the price, the quality is excellent. Not many chainsaws come at a $200 price point. Even if they do, the performance is horrendous. The Husqvarna 240 can help you out in casual backyard clean up once you get used to this machine.

Tips: Husqvarna 240 chainsaw has a decent bar length – so, very useful for deep cuts. The power consumption is very minimal, saving you some extra green. It has a moderately powerful motor that provides decent cutting speed.

Tips: Husqvarna 240 chainsaw has maximum bar length thus very useful for deep cuts. The power consumption is very minimal, therefore very economical. It has a super powerful motor consequently higher torque and fasts cutting speed.

The Husqvarna 440 is another pretty decent lightweight chainsaw for homeowners. While it does have more than the Husqvarna 240, it still lacks the punch that 460 or 455 Rancher brings to the table. I’m going to touch upon the important bits in this Husqvarna 440 review.

Nevertheless, it’s an excellent mid-range chainsaw that’ll save you some moolah and give you a reasonable overall performance.

For starters, this chainsaw has a decent 40.9CC motor. So, you can easily slice through softwood. However, you’ll have a harder time dealing with hardwood – especially the big bad bully hardwoods like walnut and oak.

Well, the 440 isn’t meant for shredding hardwood anyways. It’s a budget chainsaw just like the Husqvarna 240, but with a little bit more power.

The design is excellent with a convenient chain tensioner placement. You can adjust the chain with a snap but you need a wrench. It’s not toolless. And it’s a lightweight chainsaw. So, inexperienced chainsaw users will have an easier time learning the ropes with a machine like this one.

There’s kickback protection that’ll keep you safe from sudden accidents. The steady oil supply this chainsaw gets from the built-in oiling system keeps the chain from getting stuck during operation.

And the air plunge system of this chainsaw is above the average, promising a longer life for the engine.

Similar to the other Husqvarna chainsaw models mentioned earlier, it has a high-quality air injection system that guarantees its cleanliness. The powerful cleaning system ensures the machine is free from dust particles and debris.

Moreover, it has an anti-vibration mechanism – you can keep going to town with this saw without exhausting yourself. It’s not as noisy as other heavy chainsaws. So, once you do a couple rounds with this chainsaw, you should be able to use it without earbuds or ear protections.

Tips: It is an excellent tool for trimming and cutting tree branches. The operation is effortless as it starts up quickly. The cleaning process is quite easy as well. It has a fantastic air purge system, and the engine is free from flooding.

Let me give it to you straight – the Husqvarna 440E is a slightly tweaked version of the 440. Apart from the chain tensioner being toolless on the 440E and a couple other features, both chainsaws are identical to each other. So, the convenient chain tension is the only advantage of getting this chainsaw.

Still, in this Husqvarna 440E chainsaw review, I’ll just give you a quick highlight of what this chainsaw can do.

Similar to the 440, this chainsaw has a 40.9CC motor. However, the Husqvarna 440E can only be used with a 16-inch chain. The 440, on the other hand, can accommodate chain sizes of 13-18 inches. So, you get some flexibility but you lose some as well.

Plus, the oil tank is visible in the Husqvarna 440e. You can watch whether your chainsaw is good for one more day of grinding or do you need to take it out for a refill ride. That’s another quality-of-life improvement right there.

And refilling the oil tank is easier in this chainsaw. Compared to the older 440 model, the new and improved Husqvarna has a cap that you simply flip to access the oil tank.

On top of the existing LowVib technology that most Husqvarna already have, there’s an extra mechanism in place. The handles and the engine are kept at a distance from each other to reduce the vibration and make the operation process even easier for the users.

You’ll find all the standard features of a Husqvarna chainsaw in this model. But the slight tweaks make it a better and more efficient tool to have by your side.

Tips: Husqvarna 440e is an outstanding chainsaw that has the X-torq design for minimum power consumption. Its chain tensioning is very excellent for simple adjustments. Moreover, the anti-vibration feature promises less fatigue when working.

The next chainsaw on this list is an older version of the Husqvarna 440. So, it’s a no-brainer that this chainsaw isn’t going to be as powerful as the Husqvarna 440 or 440E. But that doesn’t mean this machine is not worth the investment. In fact, you can get a lot of light to medium work done without spending the extra dough that you’d otherwise have to for a newer model.

Following the footsteps of the Husqvarna 440, this chainsaw can also dish out 40.9CC. However, it takes a hit in the horsepower department. The Husqvarna 440 boasts a motor power of 2.4HP, and the 435 falls 0.2HP short.

Does that make a difference, though? Well, to a certain extent, it does. If you keep pushing the 440, you can go through some hardwood after you commit a lot of time and effort. But the 435 isn’t really geared for taking on heavy-duty woodcutting tasks.

Still, all the other neat features that you’ve come to expect and love from Husqvarna are here in this chainsaw. For instance, there’s the inertia-supported chain brake. You won’t be susceptible to a bone-crushing kickback as long as the brake is functional.

There’s the air injection that’ll keep the air filter clean without a lot of manual intervention. So, you only have to maintain it occasionally. And the Smart Start technology takes off the annoying rinse-and-repeat task of pulling the cord, by making starting a breeze. If you want to know more, there’s always the Husqvarna 435 review with all the juicy details.

So, the Husqvarna 435 is an excellent all-around chainsaw for a decent price. It’s way better than the Husqvarna 240. So, if you’re on a budget, instead of going for the runt of the litter, you can go for something like the Husqvarna 435 that sits in the mid-range.

Tips: It is an above-average cutting machine that has the centrifugal system to prevent the entry of debris and dust particles. Also, it has the Smart Start technology that makes it easy to start and operate. It features the X-torq design. Thus, it has a very minimal power consumption.

Tips: It is a perfectly-constructed machine that has highly-enhanced features.  The motor is quite powerful, consequently has high torque for high efficiency.

I’ve already talked about the Husqvarna 455 Rancher and claimed it to be the king of mid-tier chainsaws in the Husqvarna lineup. In that sense, you can consider the Husqvarna 450 as a king’s right-hand man.

You see – the features are pretty similar just like the 440 vs 440E comparison. However, there are few changes that make one a king and the other one a subordinate. This Husqvarna 450 chainsaw review is going to shed some light on this subject.

The first difference between the two chainsaws is the price point. The 455 Rancher is a bit higher, but the difference is less than $100. However, if you pay the extra buck to get a 455 Rancher, you get a horsepower boost of 0.3HP compared to the Husqvarna 450.

Still, 3.2HP is enough for most homeowners. So, there’s no need to spend the extra money if you only want to handle backyard cleanup.

I always love the auto-return stop switch that Husqvarna brings to some of their chainsaws. The 435 Rancher has one and it comes in handy. You can simply use the stop switch and get a move on as the switch adjusts itself. So, if you’re in a hurry and miss a switch flip, you’ll not lose all the chainsaw oil.

As always, there’s the X-torq. This technology is what makes Husqvarna a top-tier brand and I’ve talked about it quite extensively. All the other standard features are present in the 450 Rancher, including the easy-to-open oil tank cap and a cylinder cover.

Overall, the Husqvarna 450 Rancher is one of the best mid-tier Husqvarna chainsaws out there. It’s cheaper than the 455 and 460 Rancher, and it still performs close to the level of these top-tier models. FYI – the power can be insufficient if you’re planning to take on a ton of heavy tasks with this chainsaw. After all, it’s a mid-tier chainsaw.

Tips: It is a perfectly-constructed machine that has highly-enhanced features.  The motor is quite powerful – has a decent torque for high efficiency.

Tips: It is an above-average cutting machine that has the centrifugal system to prevent the entry of debris and dust particles. Also, it has the smart start technology that makes it easy to start and operate. It features the x-torque design. Thus, it has a very minimal power consumption.

The Husqvarna 445 chainsaw is a step back from the Husqvarna 450 Rancher. So, if you look at the previous breakdowns, you’ll see a pattern emerging here. Older model = cheaper but lower power. So, this Husqvarna 445 chainsaw review follows the same pattern that you’ve seen throughout this article.

The biggest difference you’ll find in the Husqvarna 445 Rancher – compared to the closest neighbor 450 – is power and price. There’s a 0.4HP deficit in the former chainsaw. When it comes to price, the Husqvarna is cheaper. But the difference isn’t too big. It’s around $60-$70.

If I had to pick a few key features – I’d say X-torq is amazing as always. You save fuel and the environment to boot. No other aspect of any Husqvarna chainsaw trumps this feature.

Plus, the kickback protection is stellar. I’ve used it for a long time without any hiccups. Even if you do run into a wild stone fragment while logging, the chain brake will have your back.

The vibration is tolerable. You can keep going to town with this chainsaw for hours before you notice any fatigue. The air injection system keeps the filter as clean as possible. However, I’d still recommend looking into yourself once in a while.

If you can’t afford the 450 Rancher, you should consider the Husqvarna 445. It’s a close competitor of the 450 with slight differences in power and price. A great chainsaw once you learn the ropes.

Tips: It has an inertia brake system that promises the safety of the user.  It has a super powerful motor and a higher torque for maximum efficiency. A step down from the 450 Rancher, but still powerful.

Buyer’s Guide – Things You Should Remember Before Buying

Like any other product, you should be clear about the features you require in a chainsaw. I know that Husqvarna is a popular brand. But that doesn’t mean you just go ahead and get a chainsaw without due diligence. So, in this best Husqvarna chainsaw reviews, I’ve decided to give you a closer look at the factors you should think about before getting a Husqvarna chainsaw.

Cost

As the old adage goes – you get what you pay for. And it’s true in the case of chainsaws as well. It doesn’t matter what brand you’re buying from. So, you have to take into consideration the budget you have for the chainsaw.

Just because it’s a chainsaw from a top-of-the-line brand like Husqvarna – doesn’t mean a cheap chainsaw will perform like a heavy-hitting beast. A budget chainsaw will only help you with light to medium cutting jobs. If you dish out big bucks to get something powerful like the Husqvarna 460 Rancher, you can slice through hardwood with ease.

So, when you consider the amount of money you’re going to spend – keep your expectations grounded. No matter how prominent, popular, or generous a brand is – you’ll only get performance according to the moolah you shell out.

Motor Power

The motor is a chainsaw’s driving force. A heavy-duty motor promises fast speed cutting and higher torque. So, you get better, faster, and smoother cuts = more overall efficiency. The type of motor you select would depend on what tasks you’re about to handle. Once you assess the task at hand, ask a professional or refer to many resources to check what size chainsaw you need to take down trees of varying thickness.

It’s really easy from there. When you know the motor power necessary for your project, you just go ahead and buy it. One tip I’d like to leave you with is that try to get a chainsaw that’s futureproof if you have the money. You don’t want to be stuck with a chainsaw that’s only suitable for light trimming only to realize that you have to take down giant trees.

Durability Issues

A lot of things determine the durability of a chainsaw. The materials used in building the chainsaw decide its fate – whether the chainsaw will ride or die. Heavy-duty constructing materials guarantee resilience against wear in harsh conditions. But having a plastic exterior can make the machine lightweight, making it easier for you to use.

Moreover, the engine should be free from flooding to maximize durability. Most of the exquisite chainsaws have an excellent cleaning system that prevents dirt particles and debris from finding entry. With that, the chainsaw is kept free from external materials which may cause damage.

Weight Management

A beginner-friendly chainsaw should have an ergonomic design. At first, you may want to superman through this chainsaw-wielding business. But once you use it, you’ll quickly realize that it’s not as easy as you imagined it to be.

So, if you’re not used to operating heavy machinery like a chainsaw, don’t go overboard and get a chainsaw that you can’t handle. However, getting a lightweight chainsaw has its drawbacks as well. For instance, lightweight chainsaws will never be as powerful as heavy chainsaws.

Understand your current skill level before deciding. And always wear proper chainsaw safety gear before going to work.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which Husqvarna chainsaws are the best?

All of them and none of them. Okay, this is a bit too poetic but bear with me for a moment. The answer isn’t a simple yes or no deal. The best Husqvarna chainsaw title can’t be bestowed upon a chainsaw just because it has more power and features.

Why?

Well, every chainsaw has its uses. Each machine caters to a certain audience. For example, budget hunters would prefer Husqvarna 240 or maybe put a bit more money and get the 455. As long as the chainsaw performs to their expectations, these budget chainsaws are going to be the “best” for budget buyers.

However, someone who’s looking to take on thick hardwood would require a more powerful chainsaw with high torque and horsepower. So, a heavy-duty chainsaw will be the “best” for these people.

So, “best” is a completely relative term. You have to assess the chainsaw against what you want to do to understand whether it’ll work for you.

Are new Husqvarna chainsaws any good?

If a company’s been doing it since 1969 and is still at it, you have to assume that they’re doing something right. And yes – Husqvarna’s been doing it right for decades now. Husqvarna has a chainsaw for everybody. From the budget concerned skeptic to the all-out professional, there’s a machine for everyone. Plus, some of Husqvarna’s signature design and technology has revolutionized the chainsaw industry.

For instance, the patented X-Torq. You save fuel, there’s less fume production, it’s a complete win-win for you and the environment. Apart from X-Torq, there are tons of other neat features that come in handy when you’re logging.

So, the answer – yes, Husqvarna chainsaws are good. They’ve been here for a long time and from what it seems – this brand and their arsenal of chainsaws – aren’t going anywhere.

What is the use of air filter cartridges?

Air filters are essential in keeping the chainsaw clean. The cartridges prevent the entry of debris and dust particles. If you have a quick-release air filter like the ones found in Husqvarna, you’ll be able to take it apart and put it back in a snap.

Nevertheless, when handling the filters, you should be extra careful due to their delicate nature. A chainsaw with excellent cartridges and air filters has a simple cleaning process.

Is durability a factor to consider when purchasing a chainsaw?

The durability of any item that you purchase should be on top of your priority list. In a chainsaw, the construction materials of the blade and the chain should be very sturdy.  Robust materials provide resilience against wear and tear, prolonging the chainsaw’s lifespan. A flimsy chainsaw serves for a short period and ends up costing more in the long run. All the chainsaws in this article were carefully tested. And I can say that – these chainsaws will last if you put some time into maintaining them and using them as they were intended.

Which Chainsaw is best: Echo or Husqvarna?

Again, there’s no straight answer. I know you’re tired of hearing this. But trust me – if I had a better way to put it I would. Echo came years after Husqvarna started their chainsaw production. The gap is probably around 13-15 years. However, Echo has garnered a reputation and created a loyal customer fanbase by producing quality chainsaws.

Still, Husqvarna is considered a premium chainsaw manufacturer while Echo is popular for creating budget-friendly chainsaws. Echo tries to meet the needs of budget hunters and Husqvarna is for hungry professionals. A battle between Husqvarna vs. Echo can tell who comes out on top.

The Brand Boat

In a nutshell, purchasing a powerful chainsaw – even when it’s a popular brand – can be a challenge. Although Husqvarna has years of wisdom and experience behind them, there’s no telling when and how a chainsaw just disappoints.

So, instead of banking all your buck on the brand, you should look past the name and look at the specifications and features. That’s exactly where the best Husqvarna chainsaw reviews can help. I’ve highlighted the peaks and pitfalls of different Husqvarna chainsaws for you to simply sit back and observe.

Once you find a chainsaw aligned with your needs, you’re good to go. But before I leave, I’m going to make a very quick recommendation.

If you’ve got the green to back you up, go for the Husqvarna 460 Rancher. It’ll take some time to get used to a powerful machine but it’s worth it.

But people who don’t want to spend around $600-$700 on a chainsaw should look into the Husqvarna 455 or 450. Both these models will help you out if you’re on a tight budget. And there’s always the Husqvarna 435 if you want the best chainsaw under $300.

With that said, nothing is more important than your comfort and results. So, check your project, understand what you need, and move forward from there. I hope this article was able to answer all the questions you have about Husqvarna chainsaws. Keep slicing and dicing! Cheers!
